Happy Earth Day!

Earth day: join the fight, do what’s right.

First celebrated in 1970, April 22nd is globally recognized as Earth Day. This annual event was established by activists to demonstrate support for, and bring awareness to, environmental protection. Fifty-years later, we continue to recognize the importance of this celebration and create Earth Day initiatives such as community clean-ups and educational fairs. With the recent global pandemic, we are being exposed to just how much of an impact we have on one another and our planet. Since the mandatory worldwide shelter in place has taken effect humans have reduced their daily commute and consumption and Mother Nature has begun to heal herself.

Reports state that animals are returning to habitats they had long ago abandoned due to the hyperactivity of humans in those areas. Pollution levels have decreased and the quality of the air is improving. This crisis has taught us many lessons but one of the most important is how connected we actually are beyond borders, races, age, and gender. As humans, we have demonstrated that we have an unlimited amount of unrealistic needs which are constantly being modified and redesigned. Our planet, with all its abundance and glory, has a limited capacity to satisfy all of these needs, nor should we expect it to. It is our job to adapt to our planet, not modify it in order to adapt to us. We tend to live our daily lives as if we are separate from our environment rather than recognizing ourselves as a single part that makes up the whole. Best said by the writer and environmental activist Wendell Berry, “The Earth is what we all have in common”.

This is the grounding principle of what motivates Feya to make the world a better place. Our work doesn't stop at our product design, with each candle purchased you provide an entire meal to a child in need. That is one way we are supporting our planet by feeding the world, one candle at a time! Feya Candle Co. partners with organizations working to improve communities around the world.

We've worked with organizations like: Jacob's Well – Haiti, Haiti Children's Hope, and a community organization in Chontales, Nicaragua. When Feya gives food, we work alongside organizations to also boost the local economy, and help in any way we can to serve the food to those who need it most. The Feya Foundation’s mission is to connect people and resources to aid in the fight to end world hunger.

Other than being a Feya customer, what are the ways you are protecting the environment and supporting the well-being of planet Earth in your daily lives? There are so many things we can do to benefit our world and most of them start small, right at home! Reducing, reusing, and recycling are the key components to cultivating change.
